Our principles

These are the ideas we build Snapback around, in plain words. They are a summary, not part of the policy’s terms; the numbered sections below are the policy.

  • Your recordings stay on your phone. Snapback records into a short buffer on your phone and keeps only the clips you choose, in your Photos or Gallery. The app doesn’t upload your videos, audio or photos. They leave your phone only if you share them or back them up yourself.
  • No account, no ads, no tracking. You don’t sign up. We don’t show ads, track you across other companies’ apps and websites, or sell your personal information.
  • Only what we need to fix the app. Snapback is a demanding app, so it sends technical crash and performance reports to help us keep it working. You can turn them off.
  • Apple and Google handle payments. You pay through your App Store or Google Play account, not through us.

1. Who we are

Woylie Technology LLC (“we”, “us”) makes the Snapback app for iPhone and Android and runs snapback.app. Snapback is currently available only in the United States. For anything about privacy, email [email protected]. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

2. What stays on your phone

  • Camera and microphone. While Snapback is rolling, it holds the most recent 15 to 90 seconds of video and sound on your phone and continuously overwrites older footage. The buffer is discarded when you stop recording. Snapback doesn’t upload it or send it to us.
  • Clips you save. When you tap to keep a clip, Snapback writes it to your phone’s Photos app or Gallery. From then on it is yours, like any other video you took. If you use a photo backup service such as iCloud Photos or Google Photos, that service’s terms apply to it, not ours.
  • Photos access. On iPhone, Snapback asks for access to your photo library so it can save clips there and show, share and delete the clips it saved. It doesn’t upload anything from your library.
  • Settings. Your app settings are stored on your phone.

Apart from the processing needed to record, save and play video, Snapback doesn’t analyse the content of your recordings and doesn’t use facial recognition.

3. Diagnostic data we collect

When reports are sent. Snapback sends a report when the app crashes or freezes, or when your phone shuts it down for using too much memory. With performance data on, it may also send reports that measure how quickly the app works.

What a report contains.

  • Error details: error type, where in our code it happened (stack traces and, for freezes, a snapshot of what the app’s threads were doing), app version and time.
  • Device and app state: device model, operating system version, language and time zone settings, and available memory and storage. Also battery and temperature state, screen orientation, and your recording settings (buffer length, resolution, frame rate).
  • Recent app activity: a short log of what happened in the app before a problem, such as starting the camera, going into the background, receiving a low-memory warning, or which screens and buttons were used.
  • Performance data, if enabled: how long tasks take, such as opening the camera or saving a clip, plus frame rates and memory use over time. We may collect performance data from only a sample of sessions.
  • Diagnostics ID: a random identifier created when you install Snapback. It lets us tell whether a problem affects one phone or many. It is not linked to your name, your Apple or Google account, or any advertising identifier. You can see, copy and reset it in the app’s Privacy settings, and reinstalling the app creates a new one. On iPhone, Sentry’s software also keeps its own random installation ID to count app sessions; it isn’t linked to you either, and reinstalling the app replaces it.

What we leave out. Snapback doesn’t put your video, audio or photos, screenshots of the app, your name, email, phone number or contacts, or advertising identifiers into reports. Sentry receives your IP address as part of any internet connection; we don’t use it to identify or locate you, and we set Sentry not to store it or the location it could work out from it.

Why we collect it. To find and fix crashes, memory problems and slowdowns, and to make sure Snapback works across many phone models. We don’t use diagnostics for advertising or to profile you, and we don’t sell them.

Your choice. In the app, Game setup → Privacy settings has two switches: “Send crash reports” and “Send performance data”. Both start on. Performance data is sent only while crash reports are on.

  • Turning a switch off stops new reports of that kind from being sent. Reports already sent aren’t affected; to ask us to delete those, email us (section 8).
  • Diagnostics are optional. Every feature of Snapback, including Pro, works the same with them off.

Crash data from Apple and Google. Separately, Apple and Google may share crash and performance statistics from your phone with us, if you have allowed it in your phone’s settings: “Share with App Developers” on iPhone, or usage and diagnostics sharing on Android. Those settings, and Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies, control that data.

4. Purchases

Snapback Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple or Google processes your payment under its own privacy policy, and we don’t ask you for payment details. Snapback checks with Apple or Google whether you own Pro.

Apple and Google may share some information about purchases with us, such as order numbers, products, prices, dates and your country or region. We use it for accounting, tax, refunds and helping you with your purchase. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.

5. When you contact us, and our website

  • Email. If you email us, we use your email address, your message and anything you attach, such as a clip or a screenshot, to reply and help you.
  • Website. We don’t use cookies, analytics or tracking on snapback.app. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request information, including IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.

6. Who receives data

  • Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) processes diagnostic reports on our behalf as our service provider, under a data processing agreement. Sentry and its sub-processors may store and access reports in the United States, the European Union and other countries. They are listed at sentry.io/legal/subprocessors.
  • Our email and website providers handle your emails and requests to snapback.app on our behalf.
  • Apple and Google handle app distribution and payments as independent companies under their own privacy policies.
  • Others, only if required: authorities, when the law requires it, or a buyer of our business, who must keep the promises in this policy.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done either in the past 12 months.

7. How long we keep data

DataKept for
Crash and fault reports, including app-session countsUp to 90 days
Performance dataUp to 30 days
Sentry’s encrypted backups of the aboveUp to 90 more days

We keep emails, purchase records and website logs only as long as we need them to help you, run our business and protect the site, or as long as the law requires, for example for tax and accounting.

8. Your rights

Wherever you live in the United States, you can ask us to:

  • access, correct or delete your personal information;
  • receive it in a portable format.

Email [email protected]. Because Snapback has no accounts, include the Diagnostics ID from the app’s Privacy settings so we can find your reports, or the order number from your store receipt for purchase records. We use these only to verify and answer your request. We respond within the time the law requires, free of charge, and we won’t treat you differently for using your rights. You may use an authorised agent, and we may ask them for proof of authority.

State privacy laws. Depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas or Virginia), you have the rights to know, access, correct and delete. You can also opt out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling; we do none of these. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with “Appeal”, and we will answer within the time the law requires. If you disagree with the result, you can contact your state Attorney General.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t sell or share personal information, so there is nothing for these signals to turn off. The app and website work the same whether or not your browser sends them.

California notice at collection

In the last 12 months we collected these categories of personal information:

  • identifiers (random IDs such as the Diagnostics ID, collected from your device to find and fix problems, and your email address if you email us);
  • device information, collected from your device for the same purpose;
  • internet or other electronic network activity (the app’s activity log and performance data), collected from your device for the same purpose;
  • commercial information (purchase records), received from Apple or Google for accounting, tax, refunds and customer support;
  • the contents of emails you send us, and anything you attach, to reply and help you.

We disclosed them only to our service providers, such as Sentry, for the purposes above. We don’t collect sensitive personal information to infer anything about you. We sell or share none, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of anyone under 16. Retention is in section 7. To use your rights, see Your rights above.

9. Children

Snapback is intended for people 13 and older. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Diagnostic reports contain technical information and are used to keep the app working. Snapback doesn’t send us the videos you record, including videos of your children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

10. Recording other people

You are responsible for following the laws that apply when you record other people. These include laws that require consent to record conversations and rules set by schools, venues and event organisers.

11. Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information. Diagnostic reports are encrypted in transit and at rest, and within Woylie Technology only the people who work on the app can see them. Sentry can also access them under its contract with us. No system is perfectly secure, which is one reason Snapback keeps your recordings on your phone.

12. Changes to this policy

We will post any change here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will give notice, for example in the app or on this page, before it takes effect. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your permission first.
